Dulais Valley Under 3's Sure Start Project

The project employs a childcare worker to give support to families with children under 3 years of age. The third year of the project has seen new developments; a parenting group that was developed in the second year of the project has been successfully delivered to 20 parents. The next step will be to offer OCN accreditation to the participants on completion of the course. The project worker is working closely with the Dulais Valley Health Visitors to offer an "importance of play" session to parents whose children have completed their two-year development check. The project worker also regularly attends the "Baby Clinics" to meet new parents and offer "book bags" on loan.

New Learning Network

The DOVE Workshop is a partner of the Neath Port Talbot New Learning Network which aims to give residents in Neath Port Talbot access to advice, guidance, information and training which will improve employment opportunities and promote lifelong learning. The New Learning Network is part funded by the European Social Fund.

Community University of the Valleys

The Community University of the Valleys Partnership is a unique partnership between the Higher Education and Voluntary sectors in the West Wales & The Valleys Region, working to develop appropriate community based lifelong learning opportunities.

The partnership aims to widen participation in higher learning by bringing learning closer to home and by making it more relevant to all parts of our communities. Our activities specifically target isolated communities, providing innovative community based learning opportunities, from informal to degree level study, offering accessible options to gain higher-level qualifications and improve skill and employability levels.

Dulais Valley Partnership

Lesley Smith is a director and treasurer of the Dulais Valley Partnership, a development trust set up to regenerate the Dulais Valley. The Workshop is particularly active in the Lifelong Learning forum and Julie Bibby chairs the forum. The Workshop also provided training for volunteers involved in the Dulais Valley Partnership's activities.

Connecting Communities Cymru

The Connecting Communities Cymru Project was launched in 1999 to provide an advanced network computer link between the University of Wales Swansea and 7 centres in community locations; supporting the development of quality learning opportunities in some of the most deprived areas of Wales. The project has been a resounding success with community centres now offering local access to a state of the art computer network with Internet and video conferencing facilities and direct links to Swansea University learning opportunities and support services.
